Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek is one of the best trekking routes in the eastern part of the country. This route was opened in 1988 for all trekkers with the aim of exploring the horizons of potential of tourism. At the same time, the trekkers could enjoy what they were looking for. They were looking for adventure, breath-taking views of Kanchenjunga massif, natural beauty and life-time of memories to cherish for. And they still enjoy the trek because this trek follows the Himalayan ranges; very deep into isolation.
Kanchenjunga, if translated in English, means “Five Great Treasuries of the Snow” and it refers to the five mountains of this region. However, there are seven major peaks. This trekking route gives us excellent panoramic views of the Kanchenjunga massif and other mountains that surround the major mountain range. This trekking route resides inside the Kanchenjunga Protection Projects. This area separates the Kanchenjunga Massif from Sikkim and Tibet.
Besides the diversity in the topography, and natural resources, there is also plenty to learn from the ethnic groups. There are various Gurung communities and other communities that resemble mainly to the Tibetans. We can enjoy their culture, whilst we are in the Base Camp Trek. On the other hand, there is diversity in flora and fauna. Snow Leopard, Red Panda and Spectacled bear are some of the endangered animal in the area and if lucky, we can see them. Blood pheasant, fulvetta, golden-breasted, and red-billed chough, snow cock are some endangered birds of the place.
All in all, Annapurna Trekking is the best way of utilizing the precious holiday that you get only once in a while.
