You want to be a bird and watch the earth by flying up in the air, there is paragliding. You want adventure, escapade and daunting challenge, there is paragliding. Paragliding is one of the many sports that is considered recreational, adventurous and thrilling at the same time. We have to fly paragliders that gives us the aerial view of the Himalayas and all that is beneath us. Paragliders are light-weight and free flying because there is a balloon of light air. The pilot sits on the harness and directs the flying while the spectator enjoys the views seen from the top. Paragliders are engineless but they can last for many hours and also cover hundreds of kilometers.

However, not everywhere can we get the opportunity of paragliding, only limited places have such facilities. Nepal’s Sarankot is one of those places that is favorable for paragliding. Sarankot at 1592m provides one of the beautiful scenes to look forward to. What makes paragliding in Sarankot a unique experience is the fact that we can have a stunning view of three of world’s eight mountains that have more than height of 8,000m- Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu. Annapurna range and beautiful landscape around Pokhara valley, Mt. Fishtail (Machhapuchhre), Lamjung Himal, Annapaurna Himal, Himchuli. And what more to look forward to if Fewa Lake beneath us isn’t enough? And on top of that, Rice field, Rivers and settlements of Pokhara make the view from the air just spectacular. Paragliding in Nepal- although a relatively new sport, is gaining popularity at an alarming rate because of this reason. And it is also the reason that many of the tourists who visit Pokhara also take joy of this wonderful sport.

In the last few years, many paragliding routes have been discovered. Some of them are in Western region of Nepal i.e. Surket, Dailekh, Kalikot and Rolpa. Some are in Kathmandu region itself- Mt. Monastery, Lakhuri Bhanjyang, Shiva Puri, Shivapuri New, Hetauda, Shreebran, Dulikel. Some are in Eastern region too. Illam and Khumbu are among them.

You might think that it is dangerous, but it is one of the touristic activities that is safe, simple and least expensive. And you also don’t have to spend days learning to fly the paraglider, there is a well experienced guide who makes the flight for you.
