Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek is one of the best trekking routes in the eastern part of the country. This route was opened in 1988 for all trekkers with the aim of exploring the horizons of potential of tourism. At the same time, the trekkers could enjoy what they were looking for. They were looking for adventure, breath-taking views of Kanchenjunga massif, natural beauty and life-time of memories to cherish for. And they still enjoy the trek because this trek follows the Himalayan ranges; very deep into isolation.

Kanchenjunga, if translated in English, means “Five Great Treasuries of the Snow” and it refers to the five mountains of this region. However, there are seven major peaks. This trekking route gives us excellent panoramic views of the Kanchenjunga massif and other mountains that surround the major mountain range. This trekking route resides inside the Kanchenjunga Protection Projects. This area separates the Kanchenjunga Massif from Sikkim and Tibet.

Besides the diversity in the topography, and natural resources, there is also plenty to learn from the ethnic groups. There are various Gurung communities and other communities that resemble mainly to the Tibetans. We can enjoy their culture, whilst we are in the Base Camp Trek. On the other hand, there is diversity in flora and fauna. Snow Leopard, Red Panda and Spectacled bear are some of the endangered animal in the area and if lucky, we can see them. Blood pheasant, fulvetta, golden-breasted, and red-billed chough, snow cock are some endangered birds of the place.

All in all, Annapurna Trekking is the best way of utilizing the precious holiday that you get only once in a while.

Upon your arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport, you will be welcomed officially in Kathmandu and in Nepal formally by a representative of Noble Treks Nepal. You will then be escorted to a hotel for Check In. As per your wishes you will either be taken to a short visit to the City of Temples or stay in the hotel. In the evening before dinner, you will meet with the guide of the tour and staffs. You can enjoy the excellent Nepali cuisine in an excellent Nepalese fashion afterwards.

After having breakfast, we will take you to some of the famous heritage sights in Kathmandu valley. We will take you to Kathmandu Durbar Square, Lalitpur Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Swoyambhu and many more. These sites are all listed in the UNESCO world heritage sites. While you are doing all these, you will also be preparing for the trekking that starts from tomorrow.

Today, we make a flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar. Less than an hour flight will take us to Biratnagar. In the afternoon, we will visit the local city, and thus learn about the culture and tradition of the place. Our guide will be cooperating with us at that time. Overnight stay in Biratnagar.

Today, we are going to make another exciting flight from Biratnagar to Shuketar. When we reach there, we wil be welcomed by the ground staffs. Once we have our breakfast, we will start descending on our way to the Base Camp. On our way, we will go through the Hungdewa Khola and the Tamur River. As there are no lodges, we will have to stay in tented camps.

Today, we will ascend through the hills for some time but we wil descend again to reach Sinwa village. After that we walk along the path to reach Tawa. Going by the trial, we will reach Chirwa within an hour of reaching Tawa. Chirwa is a Limbu village, where we will spend the rest of the night.

Today also, the trial is somehow similar to yesterday’s. We ascend for some time, and then again descend to reach a vegetation field of cardamom, mostly. We then gradually trek to reach Olangchunggola, which is the entry point of Kanchenjunga National Park. We will then enter into a dense forest, of whose route will take us to Sekathum.

The trial today is very narrow and we follow Ghunsa River along the way. We also walk through the dense forest of rhododendron, fir and bamboo. Along the way, we are treated with some very much fine scenery all around. And there are a series of waterfall on the way, which tend to make the road a bit slippery. We will reach Amjilosa to rest for the rest of the night.

After having breakfast early in the morning, we are going to leave Ambilosa. Today also, we are also going to pass through a series of waterfall. There are really no villages to pass through today, which makes us feel a bit of isolated along the way. Once we reach Gyabla, we will see the difference in the culture, as the culture shifts to a bit more Tibetan.

After having breakfast we will Gyabla for Ghunsa. We will be starting to see more yaks, which gives us the symbol of the High Himalayas. Before long, we will reach Phole village, which is Typical Tibetan village. This place has the one and only monastery of the entire trekking region. So, the visitors are very much welcome in the monastery. We spend the rest of the day in Ghunsa.

Today, we will be having a rest day at the Ghunsa. This day will help us in acclimatizing in th surrounding environment at an height of 3430m. Hoever this does not mean that we will be staying idle in the village. We are going to go Lapsen La thorough the lush forest. After coming back, we will be exploring the local areas too.

We continue our trek up to north with packed food as there is no food available in between. We cross several wooden bridges and waterfalls to reach Kambachen. From time to time, we have great views of the Kanchenjunga Jhunnu mountain. For any adventurer, the sight gives a kind of relief to their eyes and mind. Then, we reach Kambachen after a slow and steady walk. We spend the overnight in Kambachen.

Today also we have a rest day, so that it can help us in acclimatizing and give our body the required rest. Today, we explore the Nupchu Khola valley, which is another beautiful valley in itself. We will stay in the same place at our camp site. Overnight stay in Kambachen.

The trial first takes us through a rocky field to reach Ramtang. Before that, we will have already passed a waterfall and then come across a bridge. Once we reach Lhonak, we will find that the valley is a dry and sandy plain all around. Wind blows quite strong. So, we will camp alongside the boulder to get away from the wind. Overnight in Lhonak.

Today, we will travel to one of the two base camps of the Kanchenjunga Massifs. We are going to visit the Northern one today. We trek up and up, and yet we cannot see the Kanchenjunga peak until we reach Pangpema (5140m). We will also enjoy fantastic views of the Chang Himal. We will go to different spots of the base camp to make sure that we make the fullest of this opportunity. We will get different yet, glorious views from many places. Overnight in Northern Base Camp.

Today we are going to have to travel the same route to reach Khambachen. The descending trial will be much easier though. And in shorter time than before, i.e. 3,4 hours we will reach Khambachen. Today, we can rest for the remaining of the day, but we can also explore various places and talk to guide about various things of the trekking region.

After having breakfast in the morning, we will be return back to Ghunsa. From Ghunsa we will travel to the southern base camp. We will also get different view of the sceneries and the trial as we are returning to Ghunsa. Overnight at Ghunsa.

After arriving at the same place from where we headed for the North Base Camp, we will probable recognize this place. We are going to head for the route that will take us to the southern Base Camp. Today, we will trek in the steep path that will lead us to Sele Le. Travelling through the forest of the rhododendron and juniper, we will reach Sele Le. Many trekkers have reportedly been saying that they have seen Snow Leopard in this part of the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek. Overnight stay in Sele Le.

First of all, we travel a little uphill. From the top of the hill, we are going to have the magnificent views of the mountains like Jannu and Makalu. After passing various passes, we are going to get even closer to Tseram. The passes include Sinion La, the Sinelapche La and the Mirgin La. And from the passes, we are going to have even fantastic views of mountains.

Today, we are going to walk along the way of the hill that is relatively upwards. But we move forward only after we have breakfast. Stopping at several points for many great views, we are going to have a fantastic day. We also get a chance to have a look at the Yalung Glacier. This glacier is one of the four biggest glaciers of the Kanchenjunga Circuit. Overnight stay in Ramche.

Today, we retrace our way back to Tseram through the same way we used before. It is basically the same route. Once we reach Tseram, we will actually explore around the places that we didn’t visit before. From this place, we can also have a reflection back on our trekking and talk with fellow trekkers and share our experiences because it is the perfect time to do so.

Today, we will walk through the Lasiya Bhanjyang. The Lasiya Bhanjyang is a well known forest of the places. Many species of flora and fauna are also found here. We will reach there after gradual trekking up to Yamohudin. It is the biggest village of the entire southern side of the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek. So, this place has many more facilities than any other places of the southern side.

Today we are going to follow the Kabeli Khola. And after that we are going to go through the cardamom forest. After passing several villages, we are going to reach Anpan. Once we reach Anpan, we will be planning for the next day’s trip and then againg reflect back on our journey. We explore around the place to learn new things and our guide will of course help us in the process.
