Trekking in the Mustang region of Nepal offers the trekkers a chance to experience the antediluvian lifestyles of the local people, enjoy the scenic beauty of many mountains, barren hills and valleys, and explore the thousand years old monasteries, caves and villages themselves. That is why maybe this trekking is often regarded as rare and opportunistic. Upper Mustang region comprises the northern land above Kagbeni and the southern region below Tibet. This region has resemblances of Tibet in terms of the topography and culture. But still, this place this place is very much unique and remote that the local culture remains intact. In places the gorge which the Kali Gandaki River runs through is the deepest in the world, and at the height of more than 3800m, and looking at the Himalayas of height more than 8,000m,we must say it is a unique accomplishment in itself.

Upon your arrival here in Kathmandu, we will escort you from Tribhuwan International Airport to a hotel, where you will spend the rest of your day. There, we will do some social networking and get to know each other. In the dinner time, you will meet our guide for the trekking; there you can ask him various questions about trekking too.

After having breakfast, we will take you to some of the famous heritage sights in Kathmandu valley. We will take you to Kathmandu Durbar Square, Lalitpur Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Swoyambhu and many more. These sites are all listed in the UNESCO world heritage sites. While you are doing all these, you will also be preparing for the trekking that starts from tomorrow.

Today, we leave early for Pokhara. The Bus drive from Kathmandu to Pokahara is of about 6 hours. The bus drive offers us a chance to go through the scenic beauty of Nepalese hills. Meanwhile, we are also getting familiar with the surrounding of Nepal. Pokhara is a majestic city, filled with natural beauty all around. It is also known as “the city of the seven lakes”. The views of the mountains as seen from the Pokahara are just magical and splendid. In the evening, we will have plenty of time to do shopping and explore around.

We take the earliest flight from Pokhara to Jomsom; a flight of about 25minutes gives spectacular mountain views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna Ranges and Fishtail. Jomsom is the headquarter of Mustang region and it has many facilities too. We get off at Jomsom and this is the beginning of our trekking. We leave Jomsom behind to reach Kagbeni. We walk alongside Kaligandaki River, after crossing a suspension bridge. The trekking route now gradually ascends upwards. This route also gives us a chance to enjoy the splendid views of mighty mountains such as Dhaulagiri, Tukuche and Nilgiri. At the same time, there is another extraordinary of the Annapurna range in the southern side. The By the end of the trekking, we will have reached Kagbeni after walking about 4 hours. Kagbeni is a traditional village with mud houses and behind it, there is an excellent view of the mountain which makes this place very much lively.

It is important to notice that the winds in the Mustang region get very heavy in the afternoon. So, we have to start our trekking day early. Our day starts with Passing permit checkup. Afterwards, we trek alongside the KaliGandaki River. We reach Tangbe village which has white-washed houses, and then we trek up until we reach Chuksang valley. Then we cross the River. Then the trekking route gives a panoramic view of the village, valley and Nilgiri Mountain. We trek forward to reach Chele after crossing the river-bed. The river bed is famous because a number of fossils can be found up here. A steep trial leads us up to Chele.

We follow our trekking route to Ekle Bhatti and pass the Taklam La Pass (3,624m). From the Pass, we can have glorious views of Tilicho Peak, Damodar Danda and Yakawa Kang. The trial makes a descent then up until reaching Samar village. Then we climb a ridge in the same village, and then descend to a large gorge and then to a stream. After that we Ramchung cave, which is a very famous cave of the area. There is also a monastery in the area which is on the vertical wall. A similar trekking day takes us to Syanbochen.

Today, we are going to cross three passes, the first of which comes within 15 minute of starting. Yanda La pass (3,850m), Nyi La pass (4,010m) and Ghami La pass are among the three passes that we will have to go through today. After passing through the Yanda La pass, we will come across Ghelung village which has two red Gompas. The houses are made a little far from each other, unlike other places in Mustang. After ascending through the village, wewill come across Nyi La pass and then the path path descends to Ghami La pass. After passing through Ghami Las pass, we will be in Ghami village. Ghami is yet another white-washed village, which is surrounded by almost barren land from all side in the middle of a large valley.

Today, we will walk through perhaps the driest place in all of Mustang. After crossing Ghyami Khola, we will walk alongside a 1000m Mani wall- made by the followers of Buddhism. After that we will have to walk in the dusty and deserted lands, but the scenes given from various points along the trial are just as fabulous. Then we reach Charang finally. It has fortresses and red gompas which contain one of the most splendid collections of Statue and Tahnkas

We explore the fantastic village of Charang. Then we head towards Lo Manthang. We cross the valley and then walk on the trial that broadens gradually as we walk through it. We also have a beautifull view of mountains all around as we progress. We can see Lo Manthang as we descend downward. The views of red walled Lo Manthang villages with dry and brown hills on the back of it, it’s cannot me made any better. Explore the village rest of the day and stay there.

Today we explore around the village. The village contains about 150 houses, and also four major temples of the same area. One of them contains a massive statue of Buddha and at the same time, holds many Mandala paintings too. Another attraction here is a four-storey house of the King. However, after Nepal went to democratic system, he is not regarded as a king anymore but he is still well respected all around the place. We visit Namgyal Gompa; the monastery is important to locals very much- not just because it is a monastery with religious importance but because it serves as a court house too. After the gompa, there comes Tingkhar village; the last major village of the place.

Now it is time for us to return. But while returning, we take a different route than the earlier one from where we came. On our way back, we trek to Drakmar via Gyakar. There are snow peaked mountains all over the background. Gyakar still has a monastery named Ghar Gompa that is more than 1200 years old, which makes it the oldest one in Mustang. If you follow the legend, then if you make a wish in Ghar Gompa then it will be fulfilled. After that we go past highland route, and cross the alpine meadows. Then it is a matter of time that we reach Drakma

Today, we walk through a very beautiful valley. We then climb up the ridge for a fantastic scenery and then descend to reach Ghami village. We have scenes of Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri Mountain on our view. We trek to Giling for almost 6 hours in the day and we finally arrive here.

The trial goes through some steep ridges of the hills today. It is yet another trekking day of 6 hours. We trek from Ghiling to Chhuksang enjoying the splendid scenes all over the trial and especially of the mountains. Overnight stay in Chhuksang.

This is the last day of trekking. We walk up to Jharkot village, where we will stay for check out the Jharkot Monastery. We trek up to Kagbeni and then rest for some time. By this time, we will have finished upper mustang trekking and then we join in Annapurna Circuit trekking route. Then we reach Ekle Bhatti. After that it is a short walking to reach Jomsom. We will look back and wonder how the people there cn live with such isolation and desertion. However, it has greatly contributed ot keep the culture of the place alive.

We make a 30 minutes flight to Pokhara. The flight is very much similar to the first one that you made after coming to Kathmandu. However, you might get views of the mighty Himalayas if you previously didn’t get a chance to catch them. In the spare time after coming to Pokhara, you have to chance to visit the wonderful places of Pokhara.

We make a 6 hours drive to Kathmandu. The bus drive is from the same road that you made your way to Pokhara. After you arrive in Kathamndu, you have an opportunity to visit the busy streets of Thamel or go for short walk around the hotel. A celebration party is sure to happen.

Your adventurous journey comes to an end here. So you have to leave, but take with us lots of memories and joyous moments. If you ever decide to come to Nepal again, we will surely be in touch.
